What We Believe
About the Scriptures: We believe the entire Bible is the inspired Word of God and that men were moved by the Spirit of God to write the very words of Scripture. Therefore, we believe the Bible is without error.
About God: We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is the second member of the Trinity (the Son of God) who became flesh to reveal God to humanity and to become the Savior of the lost world.
About Humanity: We believe that all people were created in the image of God to have fellowship with him but became alienated in that relationship through sinful disobedience. As a result, people are incapable of regaining a right relationship with God through their own efforts.
About the Christian Life: We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves. By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.
About the Church: We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ. The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving him and by making him known to the lost world.

WHAT WE BELIEVE
Toccoa Christian Church is governed by elders selected from the congregation. We hold to the following beliefs and practices:
The God of the Bible is the only true God, all knowing, all powerful, everywhere, and is passionate about a relationship with each individual person.(Genesis 1:1; Psalm 19:1-3)
Jesus is God in the flesh, was crucified and resurrected thus serving as the atoning sacrifice for our sin and is our only way to God. (John 14:6)
The Holy Spirit is God and serves as His presence in the life of a Christian and empowers us to connect with Christ, our community, and the Church. (1 Corinthians 6:19)
The Bible is the inerrant and inspired word of God revealing His nature, His pursuit of us, and our path to connecting to Jesus, people, and His church. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Humanity is created in the image of God to love Him and to love each other, but is unable to because of sin, thus needing Jesus to be their forgiver and leader. (Romans 6:23)
We believe all have sinned and the only way for anyone to be reconciled back to God and inherit eternal life is through accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Those accepting Christ should repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized into Him. (Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38)
We teach that the Lord's Supper is the commemoration and proclamation of His death until He comes and should always be preceded by solemn self-examination (1 Corinthians 11:28-32).
We also teach that whereas the elements of communion are only representative of the flesh and blood of Christ, the Lord's Supper is nevertheless an actual communion with the risen Christ, who is present in a unique way, in fellowship with His people (1 Corinthians 10:16). In the pattern of the early church, we offer the Lord's Supper weekly.
The Church is the body of believers who live in community to connect to Jesus and people. (Hebrew 10:25)
Death seals the eternal destiny of each person (Hebrews 9:27). For all mankind, there will be a resurrection of the body into the spiritual world and a judgment that will determine the fate of everyone. The saved will be raised to eternal life and will be rewarded for works done in this life (John 6:39; Romans 8:10-11, 19-23; 2 Corinthians 4:14), and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment (Daniel 12:2; John 5:29).
The congregational elected eldership is responsible for shepherding and leading this church body in connecting with Jesus and people. (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9, 1 Peter 5:2)
What We Believe About Baptism/New Creation:
One of the most common questions that we get asked at Toccoa Christian Church is this one - "Why immersion?" Maybe you grew up in a church that baptized infants or hasn't had a Christian background and are wondering why we feel a person needs to be immersed. We want to assure you that we don't believe baptism to be any more important than any of the other steps in accepting God's Plan of Salvation (i.e. hearing, believing, repenting, confessing, and baptism). Immersion is the New Testament teaching that shows “New Life”. Jesus was baptized by immersion, which makes a very good reason! (Matthew 3:15) The Bible commands us to be immersed. (Acts 2:38) Every example in the New Testament, where a person accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, includes immersion. Baptism is a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:3) Also when Jesus gave the “Great Commission” to the Apostles, baptism was part of that commission for all to obey.
